Oswald Chambers is best known for his daily devotional, My Utmost for His Highest. But few people know the man behind the words. The mature insights shared in the devotional came from a personal struggle which lasted for many years. It will encourage those who are going through their own dark times to know that such a man as Oswald Chambers struggled through similar circumstances and found peace.

This is really a biography of Oswald and his wife, Gertrude, whom he called “Biddy.” The two of them worked together in ministry from the day they were married (even working during their honeymoon) until Oswald’s unfortunate death and beyond. It was Biddy who published the books that bear Oswald’s name from her own shorthand notes of his sermons and lectures.

There was much more to the man than what has survived in his books. The story of his life offers a great deal from which to learn. His poems, letters, and journal entries reveal a man just like many of us. He struggled, he grew in Christ, he loved, laughed, and lived a life full of passion for God. Many who read this will find something about him with which to identify, and it will encourage them in their own life of passionate service for God.
